Where I Take Root | Marialejandra Fonseca

Where I Take Root, acrylic on unstretched canvas, by Marialejandra Fonseca

ON VIEW - JUTTA GALLERY, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 2 TO 4, 2026

Where I Take Root began with a question: what does it mean to grow in a place far from where your story began?

As a Venezuelan artist living in Miami, I think often about the places, memories and relationships that shape who we are. Through a female figure, organic forms and geometric elements, this painting explores the space between our roots and the person we are becoming.

The flowers are memory, lineage, transformation. The geometry is the changing technological world pressing in around us. Together they hold a possibility: that we can move forward without leaving behind the experiences and the people who made us.

Where I Take Root is a reminder that transformation does not require losing your essence. We can grow, adapt, and take root again.
